To print AFP files, you need IBM AFP Workbench Viewer standalone application.

The standalone application allows you to view and print AFP file including AFP document, AFP page segment, AFP medium overlay, and AFP overlays with the following file extensions on Microsoft Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2022 and later operating systems.

AFP Page Segment: *.psg,*.PSG
AFP Medium Overlay: *.oly,*.OLY
AFP Overlays: *.oly,*.OLY

IBM AFP Workbench Viewer only allows you to view and print AFP document but does not create AFP document, page segment, medium overlay, or overlays on Microsoft Windows. To create AFP files, you are suggested to install the AFP Printer Driver for Windows.

1. Start the AFP Server Configuration Tool on your server

2. Open an AFP document

3. In the drop-down list of "Preset Programs", choose "Print", and click "Configure..." button on the right

4. A configuration dialog pops up, and you need to specify the target printer (usually it's a non-IPDS printer)

5. Click "OK" button to confirm and close the pop-up dialog.

6. Click "Apply" button to apply your changes.

7. Specify the AFP output folder for AFP files, and close the AFP Server Configuration Tool

8. Congratulations! You have completed the host setup process on your server as guided.

9. Now you can print any type of document, such as Microsoft Word document, to the "AFP Printer", and in the AFP output folder you get the AFP documents, and at the mean time you get your printout on the target printer.
